Monica Morales

Mónica Morales Ruvalcaba, originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, is a visual artist and graduate of the Bachelor of Visual Arts program for Plastic Expression at the University of Guadalajara. Her practice focuses primarily on sculpture and expanded printmaking, exploring the relationship between form, materiality, and perception. Through a hybrid language, matter ceases to function merely as a support and becomes an active part of the discourse.

Her work stems from a contemplative perspective that questions traditional hierarchies of beauty and relevance. Through simplified anatomical forms, natural elements, and organic bodies, she creates pieces that broaden the notion of value, directing attention to what is usually marginalized: the vulnerable, the silenced, that which does not occupy the center of discourse.

She has participated in various group exhibitions in cultural spaces and galleries both within and outside the state, including the Ex Convento del Carmen, the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat, the Jorge Martinez Gallery, and the Juan José Arreola Public Library. She also received an honorable mention in Safety Depot's "Transform Your Helmet" contest.
