An old man paints knowing it is the last time.
Not because his hand fails him, but because there is no future left.
The flower is born there, at that exact point where time decides to stop and everything else loses importance.

There is no landscape or context: the world is erased so as not to interfere.
Space fragments, memory trembles, and only the gesture remains.
Painting becomes an intimate, almost sacred act: a way of saying goodbye without uttering it.
Popocatépetl does not observe the volcano, he inhabits it.
He burns inward. Every stroke is contained desire, every color an emotion that resists disappearing. The flower is not offered: it is preserved, just as loves that can no longer be lived, but also cannot be forgotten, are preserved.
This is not a young or idealized memory.

It is a mature love, aware of its end, which nevertheless decides to stay one more second. The flower exists to fix that instant: the last gift, the last act of tenderness, the last way to love.

Here love does not end.
It becomes motionless.
And in that silence, it continues to breathe.
